Alice in Wonderland Baby Shower Cake

I made my second Alice in Wonderland themed cake this past weekend for my sister-in-law's baby shower. It was fun to take different elements from the story and incorporate it on a cake. The cake was yellow with a whipped cream and fresh strawberry filling. It was delicious! I had fun with this one :).

The "Unbirthday" Wedding Cake

I was asked to do a small wedding cake for a wedding that took place yesterday. When I saw what the couple wanted, I couldn't resist. It sounded like a fun "theme" for a wedding and a cake. The wedding decorations and desserts were all inspired by Alice in Wonderland. They asked me to make an "Unbirthday" wedding cake for them. Since the original cake was just a drawing and nearly impossible to imitate (without lots of support anyway), I altered it a bit to create something that would stand. The idea was basically the same though. And in spite of a rough 1 1/2 hour trip to the wedding site (I fixed the damage done on the trip and finished the final decorations once we arrived), the cake survived long enough for the cake cutting ceremony. I unfortunately had to leave before they cut it, but I heard it went well :).

Greg and Tanya's Wedding Cake

I loved this cake! It was simple, yet elegant. The white fondant contrasting with the beautiful roses and hydrangeas looked amazing. I realized while setting this cake up and watching the florist (the lady in red in the photos) put the finishing touches on that I am a fan of real flowers on cakes. It's nice to know how to do sugar flowers, but nothing can substitute for the real thing.
