September Wedding Cake

This is the first time I have made a cake of this magnitude with three children in my care, and it was hard! I may have to rethink doing anything larger than a simple wedding cake next time, but I was glad to have the chance to do this one. I loved the way it turned out. The fresh flowers added on by Diane Roehr really completed the cake and made it lovely. The bride loved it too which is obviously the most important thing. The wedding had 270 guests attending, so in addition to the ceremonial cake, I also made sheet cakes. I hope that everyone got a slice that wanted one. I think sometimes the people in charge of cutting cakes are a little too generous. I haven't heard otherwise yet. There were three flavors: lemon with lemon curd and raspberry preserve, chocolate with buttercream, and red velvet with cream cheese frosting. All were covered in buttercream.
What my car looked like transporting the cakes to the church.
The final result. The fresh flowers add so much. I was glad the florist came to decorate. She did a much better job than I could have done had she just left the flowers!

Sweetheart Cake July 2014

This past Saturday I was asked to create a sweetheart cake (along with some sheet cakes) for a wedding. I didn't take any pictures of the completed sheet cakes because they weren't anything fancy, but the bride chose rather patriotic berries for the cake which made for a beautiful composition inside. I did take a picture of that. I was worried about the sweetheart cake melting in the heat--it was an early evening wedding, but it was still 90-something degrees outside where the cake was sitting. Thankfully I hear everything went smoothly and the sheet cakes were enjoyed by the guests :). That's always a good thing!
